The sculptor Ernst Neizvestny died

10 of August. On the eve of the age of 91 died a world-famous sculptor Ernst Neizvestny. This was reported by TASS with reference to the friend of the sculptor Jeff Bliumis.

"He died today (Tuesday Moscow time) early in the morning," said Bliumis. - He died in hospital "stony brook" in southern new York," he said. According to the Bliumis sculpture was hospitalized after felt a sharp pain in the stomach.

"It was a sudden, two days ago he felt fine," said a friend of Ernst Unknown. He said relatives are still in shock from the incident and have not decided about the place where is buried the famous sculptor.

Another friend of the sculptor Oleg Sulkin, reported that Ernst Neizvestny felt ill on Monday evening. "At this time he was on shelter island in a country house. His wife took him to the hospital, where at about 8 am he died."

Biography

Ernst Neizvestny was born in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) 09 APR 1925. His father was a doctor, mother is a children's poet. In the 1930-ies of the parents of Ernst was arrested.

Initial artistic skills in the future famous sculptor received in the art Studio of the Sverdlovsk Palace of pioneers and at the art school in Moscow. In 1939 was awarded at the international contest of gifted children.

In 1943 he volunteered for the front. In April 1945 he was seriously wounded. Being wounded, continued to command a platoon. For his courage and heroism was awarded the order of the red Star.

In 1945 he taught at the Sverdlovsk school.

From 1946 to 1947 he studied at the Academy of arts of the Latvian SSR in Riga. In 1954 graduated from the Moscow art Institute. Surikova. Along with his studies, attended classes at the faculty of philosophy of Moscow state University.

Since 1954 has participated in art exhibitions in Moscow. In 1955 he became a member of the Union of artists (from which it was expelled in 1962 after a dispute with Nikita Khrushchev).

In 1961 and 1963 held an exhibition Ernst Unknown in Moscow.

In his works, the artist gave preference to artistic realism. In 1950-e years has formed its own style combining the features of rapid expressionism and symbolism. He mostly worked with bronze.

Among the most important cycles of the master – "Images of Dostoevsky", "Gigantomachy" and "Images of Dante".

In 1965 he won first place in the International competition of Dante in Belgrade (Yugoslavia).

In the same year, together with Marc Chagall were exhibited in the gallery Grosvenor in London. In 1970, held an exhibition of masters at the Museum of modern art in Paris (France) and Locarno (Italy).

In 1974, the sculptor executed the tombstone of Nikita Khrushchev.

In 1976, Neizvestny emigrated first to Switzerland, then USA.

In 1976 he created the head of Dmitri Shostakovich.

In the 1980s, was exhibited in the Magna gallery in San Francisco.

In 1988, he created a model of the sculpture "statue of Freedom".

In 1994, the master creates a figurine of TEFI. In 1995 his sculpture "the Golden child" was established in the seaport of Odessa (Ukraine).

In 1996, in Gelendzhik was inaugurated a monument "Mask of Sorrow". The Central sculpture – a stylized human face, the left eye which shed tears in the form of small masks. His right eye is in a window with bars. On the reverse side of the sculpture – weeping women and beheaded the man on the cross. Inside the monument is a copy of the prison cells of Stalin's time.

In 2000, created the song "Revival" in Moscow.

In 2003 opened a 10-metre bronze Monument to the dead miners of Kuzbass in Kemerovo.

In 2004 was opened a sculptural composition "Tree of Life" in Moscow.

In the last years of his life, Ernst Neizvestny underwent a major surgery to remove the tumor. The sculptor went blind in one eye, it almost stopped listening to his hands, but he continued to do.

In 2013 was opened the Museum by name of Ernst Unknown in Yekaterinburg.

Family: Ernst Neizvestny was married to Anna Graham is a second marriage. The first marriage was to the sculptor and ceramist Dina Mukhina. From the first marriage of the sculptor is the daughter of Olga, the artist.
