14 of April. The UN Security Council begins open meeting on the situation in the South-East of Ukraine. Present at the meeting of 15 representatives of the permanent members of the security Council. Among them Vitaly Churkin (Russian diplomat representing the interest of Russia in the UN). In this meeting also will be attended by Yuriy Sergeyev (Ukraine).
Initially it was assumed that the meeting will be held in a closed format, but after the meeting between members of the security Council, meeting it was decided to make open. This allowed us to take part the Ambassador of Ukraine.
Vitaly Churkin said that the initiator of this meeting was Russia. He reported that the meeting was initiated because Russia is very concerned about the statement of Oleksandr Turchynov (the so-called acting President of Ukraine) that he plans to use military force to suppress the protests in Eastern Ukraine.
For urgent meeting of the UN security Council and OSCE of the Russian foreign Ministry said on Sunday. The Russian foreign Ministry has warned Kiev against using armed forces to suppress protests in the South-East of Ukraine. The Ministry called on Kiev to start dialogue with the protesters in the interests of a speedy resolution of the situation.
What insists Russia
Vitaly Churkin said that the escalation of violence in Ukraine must be stopped immediately. The envoy stressed that further escalation of violence in the country depends directly on the West.
Vitaly Churkin said that Kiev sent troops to the East of the country, which is absolutely unacceptable. In some cities, the protesters joined the troops of law and order. Because of this, the Kiev authorities have to attract power from other cities to suppress revolts.
