11 April. Many foreign women go to Russia to work and study. Many choose the location - Moscow. Over time, they start families and think about children. But many representatives of the fair sex do not know what kind of medical care they can expect, if they do not have Russian citizenship, but stay on the territory of the Russian Federation legally.
Medical care for pregnant women
The first thing that should be known to pregnant women - foreigners, everyone has the right to medical care. Anyone can apply to a medical institution, regardless of citizenship, medical insurance and insurance and registration.
The right to medical care for foreign nationals arriving on the territory of the Russian Federation in an order not requiring a visa is guaranteed by Russian legislation and international treaties.
Anyone has the right to:
- choice of medical organization and doctor;
- prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation and treatment in medical conditions that meet sanitary requirements;
- receiving medical nutrition in case of being on treatment in a medical institution;
receiving consultations of medical specialists; - getting information about their rights and responsibilities, their state of health;
- relief of pain associated with the disease and / or medical intervention, drugs and methods available;
- protection of information constituting a medical secret;
- admission of a clergyman, and in the case of a patient in a hospital - to provide conditions for the conduct of religious rites;
- refusal of medical intervention;
- admission of a lawyer to protect his interests.
In other words, any pregnant woman can apply for medical help and get it for free.
Of course, often ambulance doctors require migrants to show documents confirming the legality of their stay on the territory of the Russian Federation, and only then they are taken to the hospital. Often, pregnant women are required to pay for their stay in the hospital, justifying this by saying that only the first 3 days in the hospital are free.

The expert recommends that when a situation arises with the demand for money for emergency assistance, contact the Red Cross.
Contractions? It's time in the hospital
Doctors are obliged to provide assistance to pregnant women, if it is a threat of a woman in labor. That is, if the birth is close, the pregnant woman has a legitimate reason to go to the nearest hospital or maternity home, even if she does not have a registration and a medical policy.
"If a woman arrives in our maternity hospital for delivery and she does not have a registration and an insurance medical policy, we accept delivery. Next, the woman is in the hospital until the general condition is stabilized. If there is a threat to life, the woman will be in the hospital until she is fully recovered. If the condition of a woman and a baby is stable, then they will be discharged on the second or third day of treatment, "Nikolai Ivannikov, the head physician of Moscow's maternity hospital No. 1, explained to the correspondent of the Political Class.
If a woman wants to stay in the hospital for a longer time, then she will have to pay for it, added the head physician.
If you are not willing to take in the maternity home, experts advise you to apply to the hotline of the social insurance fund.
Pregnant foreign citizens should remember that they can register for a women's consultation. This will require:
- passport;
- migration card;
- document confirming the legality of stay in the Russian Federation;
- insurance medical policy;
- a tear-off coupon on registration for migration registration (or registration stamp).
Medical policy
For Moscow, a migrant without a medical policy is quite a rare phenomenon. Since 2017, the voluntary medical insurance policy has become one of the mandatory documents for a legal stay in the Russian Federation.
According to the law, foreign citizens are required to issue a medical policy in order to obtain the right to work in Russia. Knowing this, enterprising sellers try to hand the policy to foreigners right at the exit from the airport.
Foreign citizens should remember that they can purchase a voluntary insurance policy in any insurance company. The minimum amount of medical insurance is currently 100 thousand rubles. The cost of the policy varies from 1,000 to 6,000 rubles, depending on the insurance coverage and the number of days of insurance.
Who will help the mother to pay for the treatment?
It is impossible to predict how the childbirth will pass, perhaps everything will go well, and the woman will be discharged immediately after birth, or the childbirth may be with complications, and will have to stay in the hospital. If the mother does not have money, she can apply to the consulate of her country, as well as to various charitable and public funds.
Maternity leave
If a foreign citizen officially works under an employment contract, being an insured person for whom premiums are paid, she has the full right to maternity leave.
The right to maternity leave is guaranteed by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, according to which foreign citizens in Russia have a number of rights.
According to Article 256 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, women have the right to leave to care for a child up to 3 years. This article extends not only to Russian citizens, but also to foreign citizens who work in the country.
In other words, this clause of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation guarantees that newcomers receive parental leave if the work is done legally under an employment contract. To receive this leave, it is enough for a woman to file an application.
Maternity leave and maternity leave are part of the work record, so this is not a violation of the purpose of entry into the Russian Federation.
