On 17th of June there was an explosion of gas distribution hub on the gas pipeline Urengoy – Pomary – Uzhgorod (lokhvitskiy district, Poltava region). After the explosion there was a fire. The height of the flame reached 100 m. as a result of the incident victims among the population there.
Gas flow in this branch was discontinued in a timely manner, the risk of major disaster is resolved, the fire extinguished. Gas transit is currently in full according to the reserve branch. In the place of the incident continue emergency repair work. Settlements located near the branches from the gas supply was not shut off.
The press service of the Ministry of energy and coal industry of Ukraine reported that the losses of gas in the explosion amounted to 10 million cubic meters. The press service stressed that "one version of what happened is a terrorist act".
Export of gas from Russia was not injured
For the transit of Russian gas to Europe explosion on the gas pipeline Urengoy – Pomary – Uzhgorod is not affected. About it reported in a press - service of "Ukrtransgaz". In the message it is said that all work on the localization of the explosion damaged the section of the pipeline were carried out quickly.
It is not the first explosion in the vicinity of the pipeline
In the area of the Urengoy – Pomary – Uzhhorod already happened emergency incident in may 2014. At a distance of 30 m from the pipeline (Ivano - Frankovsky area) during the liquidation of a gas leak explosion.
"Ukrtransgaz" then reported that the leak occurred "because of damage to the pipes by unauthorized persons".
