On 26 of November. In the Duma offer for repeated drunk driving to be punished by deprivation of liberty for a term up to two years. In early December 2014 amendments providing for criminal punishment for drunk driving, will be considered by deputies of the state Duma.
In early December the state Duma will consider in the second and third reading a bill criminalizing drunk driving. This was announced by Vyacheslav Lysak (Deputy Chairman of the lower house Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction).
"In the next two weeks will be considered a draft law amending the criminal procedure code of the RF providing for criminal responsibility for the mere fact of being in a state of intoxication at the wheel" - he said.
Vyacheslav Lysak noted that if this bill is passed, "next year for re management in a state of intoxication, repeated refusal from medical examination, and also in case of reception of alcohol after the accident will face criminal liability."
The MP noted that currently has administrative responsibility for repeated drunk driving – administrative fine in the amount of 50 thousand rubles and disqualification from driving vehicle for the term of 3 years. "From next year, around July, if one re-sit behind the wheel while intoxicated, he will be held criminally liable or forced labor, or a fine of 200 to 300 thousand rubles or imprisonment up to 2 years" - said Vyacheslav Lysak.
The current punishment for driving drunk
Responsibility for the offense provided article 12.8 of the Code on administrative offences. According to the mentioned article stipulates the following punishment:
- Management of the vehicle by the driver in an alcohol intoxication – the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of 30 thousand rubles and disqualification from driving for a period of 1.5 – 2 years.
- Transfer of control of the vehicle a person in a state of alcoholic intoxication. – the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of 30 thousand rubles and disqualification from driving vehicle for the term of 1,5 – 2 years.
