"Snow storm in Kamchatka recorded for the second time this winter. The reason for this phenomenon is the passage through the Peninsula warm cyclone," said meteorologist. The phenomenon is due to the fact that warm air mass, lifting up, created an electrical discharge accompanied by thunder. "Actually, on average, a snow storm in Kamchatka happens once in 5 years," added Anna Prikhodko.
The cyclone, which hung over the Kamchatka Peninsula, brought extreme warming in some areas of the region. In the regional centre has dropped out about 40% of the monthly norm of precipitation. "The most significant precipitation was observed in Petropavlovsk - Kamchatsky. Just one night in the city received 36 mm of rainfall (40% of the monthly norm). In the Elizovsky district – from 6 to 19 mm of precipitation (20-40% of the monthly norm), - said the meteorologist.
The height of snow cover now in Petropavlovsk – Kamchatsky on average 2.2 meters in the Elizovsky district – 1.3 to 1.7 m.
